Making free phone calls on a TV

Now this is something really cool to do: Place phone calls for free, and listen to them... on your TV!

Steps

  1. Get a computer. Any old PC will do as long as it has Windows 98-xp, and a Broadband connection.
  2. Buy a TV Tuner card with TV/Video OUT's on it.
  3. Hook up your PC to a television (Almost all tv's have a Video Input
  4. Make sure you have sound working right. If not, your in trouble
  5. Download and Install AdCalls. It's a free program that enables you to make free PC-To-Phone calls from your broadband connected PC. (Link is at the bottom of page). There are also many other Voip programs that will let you do this. One would be Skype.
  6. If you install adcalls, navigate to the installation directory. Go to Skin-->Skin1-->Timerdisplay.xml. Open this file in a text editor
  7. Near the bottom of the file, there should be a thing that says something like . Edit this number to 99:99:99 so you can talk as long as you like
  8. Run your program and start talking (Of course, you need a microphone. You can get cheap ones at K-Mart or Radio Shack.)

Tips

  • Tweak the Microphone settings. Get the perfect sound.
  • If you use an old PC, make it's sole purpose being the Voip program.

Warnings

  • TV Tuner cards can be rather expensive, so Ebay would probably be the best bet.
  • Not the best way to have private conversations.
  • In adcalls TOS, it says they have a right to call the numbers you dial (telemarketers)

Things You'll Need

  • Old PC with Windows 98-Windows XP
  • a VoIP program
  • TV
  • TV Tuner Card
  • Microphone
  • Space for the Computer
